Experience

Dr Stephen Tsao is a gastroenterologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.

He specialises in advanced diagnostic endoscopy and endoscopic resection techniques such as endoscopic submucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for the removal of early gastrointestinal cancers.

Dr Tsao was formerly the director of the endoscopy centre at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and the head of gastroenterology at Woodlands Health.

He graduated from the University of Leicester, UK and went on to complete his specialist training. He obtained his membership of the Royal College of Physicians in London, UK and was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK. Dr Tsao also completed a fellowship programme from the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology at Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan. He has been practising medicine for more than 25 years and has performed more than 500 advanced endoscopic resections located in the oesophagus, stomach and colon.

Outside of his clinical practice, Dr Tsao is involved with the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore and has held various positions including currently president. He also sits in the Chapter of Gastroenterology, College of Physicians Academy of Medicine Singapore as vice-chairman. He served as an associate professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and as a senior lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

He has been invited to local and overseas meetings for demonstrations of the ESD technique. He is also involved in the training of local and overseas doctors.
