Experience

Dr Luke Tan is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.

His expertise includes thyroid surgery, advanced endoscopic sinus surgery, and head and neck cancer surgery. He is also trained in robotic head and neck/thyroid surgery.

He has an interest in thyroid surgery and has performed 650 surgeries during his private practice from 2008 to 2017.

He started the ENT services at Alexandra Hospital, which is now the department of ENT at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Dr Tan was also the former head and associate professor of the department of otolaryngology at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and chief of the department of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH).

Dr Tan attained his bachelor's degrees at NUS in 1988. After completing basic surgery training at the Singapore General Hospital and NUH, he pursued specialist training in otolaryngology in the UK. He was subsequently admitted as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, UK. Following his training, he was awarded a 2-year training fellowship in head and neck oncologic surgery in Texas, US.

He was the president of the Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery Singapore from 2004 to 2006. Dr Tan has published a book "ENT for family practice" for primary care doctors and was one of a few doctors to perform robotic thyroid surgery early on in Singapore. He has been practising medicine for more than 30 years.

In 2000, Dr Tan was involved in the formation of the national ENT residency training programme. He was also the associate chairman of the NUH medical board.

He has volunteered with the Singapore International Foundation for 12 years teaching ENT surgery in Vietnam and received the Long Service Award.
