Dr Chelvin Sng is an ophthalmologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.

Her subspecialties include cataract, glaucoma and general ophthalmology. She has a special interest in complex cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).

She was a former senior consultant in the department of ophthalmology at the National University Hospital.

Dr Sng graduated from Gonville & Caius College in University of Cambridge, UK, with triple first class honours and distinctions and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. As a recipient of the Academic Medicine and Development Award, she trained in the management of complex and severe glaucoma at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, the largest eye hospital in Europe. After her fellowship, she became an honorary consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

She was a former associate professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Currently, she is an adjunct associate professor there.

Dr Sng was the earliest surgeon in Asia to implant several minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) devices including the iStent Inject, the XEN Gel Implant, the PRESERFLO MicroShunt and the CyPass Micro-Stent. She is also the co-inventor of a novel glaucoma tube implant, the Paul Glaucoma Implant.

She is regularly invited to speak at international conferences and sits on several medical advisory boards. She was appointed the convenor of the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society-MIGS Interest Group, which she started.

She is actively involved in research on glaucoma surgery and imaging, with over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals. She is also an examiner for the local medical undergraduate and residency examinations, and has chaired instruction courses at the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology meetings.

Dr Sng was voted on the global Ophthalmologist “Top 100 Women in Ophthalmology” Power List 2021 and the “Top 50 Rising Stars” Power List 2017. She received the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award 2019 and the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology Young Ophthalmologist Award.
