Dr Prakash R Paliwal is a neurologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.

His clinical interests are in headaches, stroke, movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, autoimmune neurological disorders, demyelinating disorders of the nervous system, as well as muscle disorders.

He was formerly a senior consultant in the division of neurology at the National University Hospital (NUH) and previously a visiting consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Dr Paliwal graduated from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India and obtained his membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians, UK. He did his advanced specialist training at NUH in neurology and during that same year, he was awarded the Young Researcher Award from NUH’s department of medicine. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh. He also has an American Society of Neuroimaging certification for neurosonology (trans cranial and extra cranial dopplers) and the Asian Epilepsy Academy certification for electroencephalography.

While at NUH, he gained experience in treating neurological disorders, and has a special interest in treating stroke during the hyperacute phase and prevention of stroke. He was actively involved in formulating and revising protocol for the hyperacute stroke care at NUH. He was also involved in the Parkinson’s clinic at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and treated patients with Parkinson’s.

Besides his clinical work, he was involved in training medical students. He participated as an examiner regularly for neurology training in students’ in-training assessments and was a lead educator for neurology trainees for hyperacute stroke care simulation training at NUH. He was formerly an assistant professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

Dr Paliwal has participated as a speaker and trainer for many symposiums for international neurology delegates on stroke care. He is involved in research on neurological disorders and has published extensively in neurology with the main area of interest in stroke care.

He has also written on headache, epilepsy, neuropathies, neurophysiology-related procedures, and COVID-affecting neurology diseases. He has more than 52 international publications including book chapters and published abstracts in international peer-reviewed journals.

He is a recipient of the National University Health System-Mochtar Riady Pinnacle Awards (Team Award) for a project on “Time is Brain – Endovascular Therapy: Improving Door To Anaesthesia Start Time”.
