Dr Kenneth Lyen is a consultant paediatrician at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, a visiting consultant paediatric endocrinologist to the School Health Services at the Singapore General Hospital, and a visiting tutor in developmental paediatrics at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is on the board of management for the Rainbow Centre which oversees two schools for disabled children and children with autism spectrum disorder.
He founded both these schools and received the Public Service Medal for his community services. He is also on the medical advisory panel for Outward Bound Singapore. Dr Lyen has published 22 original research papers on paediatric endocrinology, neurology, and infectious diseases, and has co-authored 13 books on paediatrics, parenting, creativity, and education. He has written and staged 22 musicals in Singapore.
Dr Kenneth Lyen graduated in medicine from the University of Oxford, and received postgraduate training in paediatrics in London at University College Hospital and the Hammersmith Hospital. He went on to sub-specialise in paediatric endocrinology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Great Ormond Street. He was awarded a 3-year research fellowship in paediatric diabetes and metabolic diseases at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He returned to Singapore take up a teaching and research appointment in the Department of Paediatrics, National University of Singapore.
