Dr Lee Haw Chou is an orthopaedic surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. He provides specialised care in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic and spinal diseases.

Dr Lee has 15 years of experience in the field of orthopaedic surgery. Upon his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, he underwent basic surgical training and completed specialty training in general surgery, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. He went on to specialised training in orthopaedics and was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery, Edinburgh in 2003.

Subsequently, Dr Lee subspecialised in spine surgery and went to various centres in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United Kingdom on fellowship attachments. He also underwent a 12-month stint at the University of Missouri, USA, from 2004 to 2005, where he was a surgical fellow.

Before establishing his private practice in 2012, Dr Lee was a senior consultant at the Orthopaedic Department at Changi General Hospital. He championed the Orthopaedic Geriatric Programme for hip fractures and was Director of the Osteoporosis Programme which does preventive counselling, treatment and lifestyle advice for the elderly with osteoporosis.

Dr Lee was instrumental in setting up the Spine Service in 2009, and also served as Chief of the Spine Service. Additionally, he oversaw the training of junior spine surgeons and established a comprehensive patient care programme where patients are led through the surgical process and recovery with a multi-disciplinary team of nurses and a physiotherapist.

Besides his dedication to achieving the best for his patients, Dr Lee is also passionate about improving healthcare processes. Over the years, he has secured grants from the Ministry of Health’s Healthcare Quality Improvement Fund. He spearheaded process improvements throughout Changi General Hospital with respect to clinical infection and thromboprophylaxis. Dr Lee also enhanced care of the elderly with hip fractures through a multi-disciplinary team in the hospital. He has received numerous awards from the Ministry of Health and was thrice a recipient of the Singhealth Service Quality Award.
