Dr Chua is an orthopaedic surgeon and spine specialist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His clinical interests include slipped disc, nerve compression, scoliosis and spinal deformity, spinal cord injuries, compression and trauma, and arthritic degenerative disease.
Dr Chua has expertise in all aspects of spinal surgery from suboccipital, cervical, thoracic, lumbosacral and pelvic fixation, in both open and minimally invasive techniques. He performs decompression, instrumented fusion and disc replacement surgery, and is sought after for his expertise in complex spinal conditions.
He was the deputy chief of spine service at Changi General Hospital (CGH) and was a visiting consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and CGH.
He completed his surgical training in Singapore and advanced his spine surgery repertoire at the Krembil Neuroscience Centre, University of Toronto, after being awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship by the Ministry of Health in 2009.
Upon his return to Singapore, he was awarded the prestigious DePuy-Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association Spine Travelling Fellowship in 2010, where he was the lead member. In 2012, he received the Best Service Award by CGH.
Dr Chua was previously faculty member at AOSpine and Spine World Summit, and worked on research collaborations with Peking Union Medical College, Beijing and the alumni at the University of Toronto. He was also involved in spinal cord injury and regeneration research, and published several key articles and invited editorials in renowned international spine journals. He serves on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals.
