Experience

Dr Paul Chiam is a cardiologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Singapore.

He is one of the few surgeons in Singapore with experience in performing transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR).

Dr Chiam subspecialises in interventional cardiology, and previously spent 18 months at the Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute of New York gaining hands-on experience in complex coronary angioplasty, carotid artery stenting, peripheral artery angioplasty, and structural heart disease (heart valve) interventions.

He later spent 3 months training in intracranial angioplasty and stenting in the department of endovascular neurosurgery at the University of Buffalo.

He graduated on the Dean’s list from the National University of Singapore, and completed his postgraduate Master of Medicine examination, where he won the G.A. Ransome Gold Medal.

He is an adjunct associate professor at the National University of Singapore. 

He was the secretary general of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC) from 2016 – 2019 and is the current co-chair of the APSIC Scientific Committee. He was also a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Peripheral Vascular Disease Section Leadership Council from 2014 – 2017.

Dr Chiam is well-recognised in the field of interventional cardiology, and has been invited as a guest faculty or speaker to major international cardiovascular conferences such as the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions, and American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.

He has also been invited as a case operator to conduct workshops and to perform cases during 'live transmissions' in complex coronary interventions, peripheral artery interventions and mitral valvuloplasties in Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Taiwan and China.

He has published extensively in cardiovascular journals, and won the SingHealth Publish! Award in 2012 for a paper published in a major cardiovascular journal.
