Experience

Dr Henry Chan is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.

He has special interests in computer-assisted joint replacement surgeries such as total knee replacement, total hip replacement, and unicompartmental knee replacement using pinless computer navigation, patient specific instrumentation and robotic surgery MAKOplasty.

He also specialises in the management of various general orthopaedic conditions, sports injuries such as ligament rupture and meniscus tear, spine conditions including prolapsed intervertebral discs, as well as the management of adult and child fractures and trauma.

Dr Chan spearheaded the joint replacement unit in the department of orthopaedic surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and performed more than 1,000 joint replacements since 2013.

He obtained his basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2004. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK and obtained his master's degree in 2009. He completed his advanced surgical training and became a certified fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2013.

Dr Chan was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship from the Ministry of Health and completed his fellowship in revision hip and knee arthroplasty at the Helios ENDO-Klinik Hamburg, Germany in 2014. It is the largest hip and knee reconstruction centre in Europe, performing more than 5,000 joint replacements annually and specialising in complex revision hip and knee surgeries. The revision joint replacement fellowship in Helios ENDO-Klinik allowed him to treat the various complications of joint replacements such as infections, fractures, pain, recurrent dislocation, stiffness or loosening.

He has been invited as an instructor for basic and advanced joint replacement courses in various countries including Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and India. He is an adjunct assistant professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a core faculty member of the orthopaedic residency programme at the National Healthcare Group. He was also a clinical teacher of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
