Dr Errol Chan is an ophthalmologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.

His specialty is in cataract surgery, the medical and surgical treatment of retinal diseases, and uveitis, a form of eye inflammation.

Before going into private practice, he was a consultant ophthalmologist and cataract and vitreoretinal surgeon for the national healthcare services in the UK.

Dr Chan did his bachelor’s degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed ophthalmology specialist training at the National University Health System.

He pursued a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at McGill University in Canada and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, UK, where he broadened his experience in surgical treatments for retinal diseases. With his training in the medical retina and uveitis fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, he gained expertise in uveitis, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, as well as in retinal vascular and choroidal eye conditions.

Dr Chan holds a number of fellowships from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists UK, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the Academy of Medicine.

He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Vitrectomy-Buckle Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

He was a clinical lecturer at NUS, and has supervised the clinical and surgical training of ophthalmology fellows and specialist trainees.

He is also a visiting consultant at the National University Hospital in Singapore.

Dr Chan is a regular speaker at international ophthalmology conferences, and is actively engaged in clinical research. He has been a clinical trial investigator of new treatments for retinal diseases, has authored more than 40 articles in textbooks and journals, and is a reviewer for leading ophthalmology journals.

For his academic contributions, he has been recognised with several awards, including the Asia-Pacific Vitreoretinal Society Best Free Paper, the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute Fellow’s Research Award, and the World Glaucoma Congress Travel Award.
